Shot Blocking Secrets from the Best Shot Blockers in College
The 4 Keys:
1. Timing
Try to block the shot as soon as it leaves the shooter’s hand.
A majority of block attempts happen too late – out of reach or goal tending is the result.
A shot block attempted too early will usually result in a foul.
2. Body Control
Great posture and balance will get your block.
Lunging off balance or reaching will get you a foul or an and-1.
3. Footwork
Stay on your toes.
Maintain balance with knees bent and hips ready to explode.
Establish a balance training portion of your workout – the good players swear by it!
