Shooting Drills that Work
"He needs to work more on his perimeter shot, learn to shoot it with confidence," his coach said.
"He needs to be more aware when he has the opportunity (to shoot from the perimeter)", and the next level…
"He is capable of shooting well from the perimeter. He just needs to be more consistent."
How many times have you heard or read this exact comment about a player and their shooting? These shooting drills will work.
Want to improve your consistency? It starts with FOCUS. This drill is proven to work:
"FOCUS" Shooting Drill
1. Stand back facing the rim with a basketball (always wear your Shooter’s Fork)
2. Flip the ball over your head and spin around.
3. As soon as you see the rim – lock your eyes into the 2 rungs in the front of the rim.
4. Balance yourself, while getting into your shooters position, catch the ball.
5. Shoot while never taking your eyes off the targeted spot
Result: Your shot will improve dramatically if you keep your eyes fixed on your “spot”
6. Variation: have a partner throw bounce passes to you as soon as you release your shot – still focused on the rim
Record your results: 20 shots your old way - 20 shots the new “focused” way
“KANSAS” Shooting Drill
1. The player will shoot from seven spots on the court
2. The player must make 2 in a row before moving to the next spot
High school: 45 seconds – high level
College: 39 seconds – high level
